Exhibition opens Monday at Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine
Expansion of architectural and cultural exchange between the two countries sought
The Korean Institute of Architects announced Wednesday that it will hold an exhibition of Korean architects at the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris from Monday through Oct. 12 to mark the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and France.
The exhibition was organized through collaboration among the Korean Institute of Architects (KIA), the Conseil National de l'Ordre des Architectes (CNOA) of France, and the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine. Min Hyung-jun, the KIA's vice president for international affairs, and French architect Sophie Berteliée served as co-chief curators overseeing the exhibition's planning.
The exhibition is significant for sustaining and expanding architectural and cultural exchange between the two countries. This year's Paris show features 45 architects and seven architectural firms at the forefront of contemporary Korean architecture, showcasing their major works.
The Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine is one of France's foremost architectural and cultural institutions, situated in the Palais de Chaillot at Trocadéro facing the Eiffel Tower, and serves as a major hub for world architectural culture.
An official opening reception is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at the museum, with approximately 150 prominent figures from the architectural and cultural sectors of both countries expected to attend. Following the Paris run, organizers plan to take the exhibition on tour to other regions of France, continuing to introduce the achievements and values of contemporary Korean architecture across the country.
KIA President Park Sang-jin said it was meaningful that the two countries, bound by 140 years of friendship, could share a deep connection through the universal and creative language of architecture. "This exhibition will serve as a historic milestone in widely promoting the unique aesthetics and philosophy of contemporary Korean architecture throughout France and Europe, and in strengthening a future-oriented partnership," he said.
Meanwhile, the KIA's core activities include training architects, protecting their professional rights and welfare, and serving as a member organization of the International Union of Architects.
