Seoul Agricultural & Marine Products Corp.'s Gangseo branch donates holiday goods — fruits, rice and ramyun — for residents with disabilities, children and seniors
Gangseo-gu in Seoul will distribute holiday food packages to 88 welfare facilities ahead of chuseok to help vulnerable residents celebrate the season.
The district office held a chuseok donation ceremony Tuesday, receiving 1,050 food boxes from the Gangseo branch of the Seoul Agricultural & Marine Products Corp.
About 10 people attended the ceremony, including Gangseo-gu District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon, Seoul Agricultural & Marine Products Corp. Gangseo Branch Chief Lee Bong-jun, and representatives from the Gangseo wholesale market corporation, the market wholesalers association and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives' Gangseo auction house.
The food packages, valued at 30 million won ($21,700), consist of apples, pears, rice and ramyun. The district plans to distribute them to 88 local welfare facilities — including centers for people with disabilities, community children's centers and senior welfare centers — through the Community Chest of Korea's Seoul chapter.
The Gangseo branch of the Seoul Agricultural & Marine Products Corp. has carried out holiday giving campaigns for those in need every year since 2010. Cumulative donations have now surpassed 700 million won.
"Thank you for once again sharing warmth with our neighbors in need this chuseok," District Mayor Jin said. "We will take careful steps to ensure all residents can enjoy a plentiful holiday."
