From Oct. 12 to Nov. 6, the district will run on-site consulting sessions and information seminars at local middle and high schools, deploying experts from an admissions strategy institute to offer one-on-one counseling, school record management guidance, and tailored college entrance strategies.
Yeongdeungpo-gu will run an on-site career and college admissions consulting and information seminar program at middle and high schools across the district from Oct. 12 to Nov. 6.
The program was designed for students and parents struggling with the information gap and the financial burden of private tutoring. Its aim is to provide professional, publicly funded admissions guidance, ensure equal access to educational opportunities, and help families navigate college planning concerns.
The first-half program, which ran from May through July, drew 101 participants for one-on-one consulting sessions and 1,073 students across eight schools for the seminars — 1,174 in total. Applications exceeded the original target by more than double, generating strong demand. The district expanded and strengthened the second-half program in direct response to that on-the-ground interest.
The one-on-one consulting sessions offer a comprehensive assessment of each student's career direction, study habits, and admissions strategy. Middle school students receive help setting academic goals and correcting study habits, while first- and second-year high school students get guidance on learning methods and managing both academic and extracurricular school records in pursuit of their target universities. Third-year students receive intensive, tailored support — including a review of universities and departments within reach of their current grades and a customized strategy aimed at gaining admission to their goal school.
The on-site admissions seminars, running alongside the consulting sessions, cover topics of each school's choosing — subject-specific study methods, school record management, and strategies for university and high school entrance exams — and are held on weekdays for up to two hours per session.
In addition, the district will host a high school admissions fair for local schools on Oct. 31, and plans to follow up in December with one-on-one regular admissions consulting based on actual College Scholastic Ability Test score reports, along with a regular admissions strategy seminar.

District Mayor Cho Yu-jin said she hopes the program will allow students to map out effective learning strategies and career paths without the burden of private tutoring costs. "We will continue to listen closely to the voices of those in education and steadily expand a range of education policies that provide real, practical help to students and parents," she said.
