The North Gyeongsang Provincial Council visited Pohang's Jukdo Market ahead of the Chuseok holiday to hear concerns from traditional market vendors.

About 70 people took part in the shopping event at Jukdo Market on Monday, including Council Speaker Kim Hee-su, provincial council members from the Pohang area and council secretariat staff.

The event was organized to encourage traditional market vendors struggling amid the economic slowdown and sluggish consumer spending, and to help revitalize the local economy by promoting the use of traditional markets.

Council members and staff browsed the market, purchasing holiday goods — including ritual offering items and local agricultural and seafood products — while speaking directly with vendors about the difficulties they face.

After the shopping event, participants held a meeting with market representatives to discuss the challenges facing traditional markets, including the economic downturn and shifting consumer habits. They also exchanged views on support measures that could provide meaningful help to small business owners.

"We will faithfully reflect the voices of vendors we heard at the scene in our legislative work, and will continue to pay close attention so that traditional markets and small business owners can regain vitality and the local economy can further recover," Council Speaker Kim said.
