BNK Investment & Securities announced Monday that it signed a three-way MOU with STO platform company Buysell Standards and intellectual property specialist Intellectual Discovery on Wednesday for cooperation on IP-backed fractional investment, STO projects and IP monetization.

The agreement was designed to combine the three companies' expertise to turn intellectual property into a new investment asset class, building a collaborative framework spanning IP sourcing, rights review, financial product structuring, and investment product development and monetization.

Key areas of cooperation include revitalizing existing IP finance businesses such as collateral loans, guarantees and investment; entering the STO market through the issuance of new securities including trust beneficiary certificates; establishing and operating a dedicated fund for new IP sourcing; expanding into global STO markets; and developing measures to enhance the value of IP assets.

Under the agreement, BNK Investment & Securities will draw on its corporate finance expertise to handle financial product structuring, issuance arrangement and distribution. Buysell Standards will provide investment product planning, tokenization technology and its operational capabilities for the fractional investment platform Piece. Intellectual Discovery will handle IP monetization through sourcing high-quality IP, reviewing rights and managing licensing.

The three companies plan to closely examine the rights structure, revenue model and business viability of target IP assets, then work out investment structures and execution plans suited to the characteristics of each underlying asset.

BNK Investment & Securities said it intends to use the MOU as a springboard to expand the underlying assets for its fractional investment and STO project into the IP sector, opening up new business opportunities. The company expects the partnership to give IP holders more options for raising capital and monetizing their assets, while offering investors a chance to participate in IP-backed investment that has previously been difficult to access.

"We have laid the groundwork for an IP specialist, a platform company and a securities firm to combine their respective expertise and jointly pursue new financial businesses," BNK Investment & Securities CEO Shin Myung-ho said. "We will identify high-potential projects, develop step-by-step execution plans and translate them into tangible business results."
