Hanwha Life Insurance is teaming up with Severance Hospital to train insurance agents as "dementia care consultants," deepening their expertise in dementia-related financial planning.

Hanwha Life announced Monday that it has launched a "dementia care consultant training program" open to all agents at its subsidiary general agencies — including Hanwha Life Financial Services, Hanwha Life Lab and Hanwha People Life — as well as agents at all affiliated GA firms.

The training will be conducted through the company's in-house online education platform. Severance Hospital will cover dementia prevention and management, while Hanwha Life will handle dementia insurance and caregiving risk consultation.

The Severance Hospital portion is led by Kim Eo-su, the hospital's vice president of research. It covers understanding dementia, how to use self-assessment tools for monitoring cognitive function, and a dementia prevention guide — delivering practical know-how on prevention and management.

The Hanwha Life portion focuses on practical financial education, covering the structure of dementia insurance and financial preparedness, as well as caregiving risk and dementia insurance consultation.

Because dementia progresses in complex ways, customers often struggle to anticipate how much care they will need. Agents who complete the program will gain a deeper understanding of dementia and be better equipped to clearly and accurately guide customers on caregiving preparations suited to their individual circumstances.

The training is designed to help agents selling Hanwha Life products build specialized expertise and sharpen their competitive edge, while giving customers access to more reliable, tailored consultation.

"We have developed a curriculum that combines Severance Hospital's medical expertise with Hanwha Life's financial consulting capabilities to raise the standard of dementia-related consultation," said Lee Jong-ho, head of marketing at Hanwha Life. "We will support agents selling Hanwha Life products so they can offer more professional explanations and proposals in dementia consultations, strengthening both customer trust and sales competitiveness."

The program is a follow-up to an MOU on building dementia care solutions that Hanwha Life signed with Severance Hospital on June 30. Under that agreement, the two institutions committed to jointly pursuing dementia solution research, product development and specialized training programs.

Hanwha Life has also been steadily expanding its lineup of dementia and caregiving products this year. In April, it launched "Chimaedameun Ganbyeong Plus Insurance," which provides coverage from the early stages of dementia (CDR scores 1–2). In July, it released "H Dementia Caregiving Insurance" with an expanded simplified underwriting option, and last month it introduced "Dementia Ansim MMT," a demand-deposit trust product that can be used to cover nursing costs when dementia reaches a moderate or higher severity.
