America's first AI memory production base targets mass production in second half of 2029

HanmiGlobal announced Monday that it is serving as project manager for SK hynix's advanced HBM packaging factory under construction in West Lafayette, Indiana, overseeing integrated management of design, process, cost, quality and safety for the project.

SK hynix held a groundbreaking ceremony for the facility on Aug. 27 at Holloway Gymnasium on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette. The factory will be SK hynix's first AI memory production base in the United States and will receive a total investment of more than $4 billion.

Construction began with excavation work in March and is currently under way, with a target of completing the clean room by October 2028. Mass production is planned to begin in the second half of 2029.

HanmiGlobal has been involved in the project since August 2024, participating in the pre-construction phase. The company will handle project management through the clean room completion in 2028, covering coordination of SK hynix's Korean and US partners, design management, schedule and cost control, quality assurance, safety and risk management.

Building a production facility in the United States requires an understanding of local regulations and the business environment, as procurement structures, contracts, permitting and labor conditions differ significantly from those in Korea. Semiconductor production facilities in particular demand coordinated management of clean rooms, utilities — including power, water, gas and exhaust systems — and equipment installation schedules, making coordination among designers, contractors and equipment suppliers critical.

HanmiGlobal currently manages more than 20 advanced industrial construction projects in the United States on behalf of Korean companies, spanning semiconductor, secondary battery and subsea cable production facilities. For this project, the company plans to provide integrated management of schedule, cost and quality while coordinating between the Korean client and local US participants.

Meanwhile, HanmiGlobal is also providing construction management services in the urban redevelopment sector, including projects in Hannam Districts 3 and 4, Apgujeong District 3, the Eunma apartment complex, Bangbae District 5 and Busan's Samik Beach development.
