A group of six people who posed as wedding guests and falsely claimed to have already paid cash gifts — in order to collect refunds and meal vouchers — has been caught by police.
Busan Nambu Police Station forwarded six people, including a man in his 70s identified as A, to prosecutors without detention on fraud charges, Yonhap reported Friday.
A and the others are accused of approaching gift-reception desks at two wedding venues in Busan during busy periods between March and July, falsely claiming they had already paid their cash gifts and walking away with refunds or meal vouchers. In total, they allegedly obtained 770,000 won ($558) in cash and goods.
Police launched the investigation after receiving reports from victims and identified all six suspects.
Most of the suspects had prior criminal records, police said.
"If you notice suspicious behavior at a wedding gift-reception desk, please call 112 immediately," a police official said.
