The Gangnam-gu Council attended the 2026 Gangnam Environmental Transformation Festival on Friday morning at the COEX east entrance lobby to raise awareness of the climate crisis and environmental conservation and to promote carbon neutrality practices.
Organized to mark September — a month that includes Blue Sky Day, World Ozone Layer Protection Day and World Car-Free Day — the festival ran under the theme "Reduce carbon, increase circulation, add action," featuring a range of performances and hands-on programs.
Council Vice Speaker Kim Hyun-jung and Assembly member Noh Mi-jin attended the event, joining residents in trying out various programs and reflecting on the importance of carbon neutrality and environmental conservation.
The opening ceremony, attended by residents, tourists, Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyun-gi, city council members and other guests, included a commendation ceremony honoring individuals who have contributed to environmental conservation. District Mayor Kim and the assembled guests then took part in an "Environmental Transformation Performance" delivering hands-on messages about environmental action.
Experience booths offered programs centered on resource circulation and carbon neutrality — including making doorbells from sock yarn and crafting body scrubs from used coffee grounds — as well as a giveaway of fine-dust-reducing houseplants.
Several companies also joined the event. Skincare brand I'm Not a Baby presented a program called "My Environmental Type Test & Transformation Pledge," in which participants identify their environmental profile through lifestyle habits and set personal action goals. Climate-tech startup Ohu Dusi Lab drew attention with its "Calculate My Carbon Footprint" program, which lets participants measure the carbon emissions from their daily lives.
In her congratulatory remarks, Vice Speaker Kim said she hoped the Environmental Transformation Performance held Friday "will serve as a precious stepping stone toward a sustainable future for Gangnam," adding that "overcoming the climate crisis and building a healthy foundation for future generations is the most urgent responsibility we face today." She said the Gangnam-gu Council "will make environmental policy its top priority and spare no institutional support for the healthy future of our residents."
