A teacher in his 30s threatened students arriving at a middle school in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, brandishing a stun gun at the school gate Friday morning.

Police apprehended the teacher, identified only as A, at the scene and had him committed to a local hospital on an emergency basis.

According to the Gumi Police Station, a report came in at around 8:14 a.m. Friday that a teacher was threatening students with a stun gun at the entrance of a middle school in Gumi.

A reportedly told students arriving for school, "I'm going to die today — Friday," and "Let's die together."

Officers who responded detained A on the spot. No students or other teachers were reported injured in the incident.

A had reportedly been taking medication for depression. Police determined he posed a risk of harm to himself or others and arranged his emergency admission to a local hospital.

Police plan to investigate the full circumstances of the incident and will also look into whether A had engaged in emotional abuse of students prior to the episode.
