LG Uplus has drawn up a special communications plan to handle the surge in call volume and data traffic expected during the Chuseok holiday, the company said Friday. It will deploy AION, its AI-based autonomous network management platform, to ensure stable service throughout the period.

The company said it has activated an emergency operations framework for the holiday to keep customers connected on both data and voice services.

LG Uplus said it has completed preemptive inspections and quality optimization of 5G and LTE base stations at expressways, rest stops, KTX and SRT stations, bus terminals and airports nationwide. It also scaled up cache server capacity to prepare for increased demand on its U+tv service and OTT platforms.

The company also analyzed holiday call and data usage patterns to deploy field crews at key locations. Personnel will be stationed at major expressway toll gates and congestion-prone rest areas, ready to respond immediately to any unexpected issues during the holiday.

LG Uplus plans to run a central operations center at its Magok headquarters in Seoul, maintaining round-the-clock monitoring throughout the holiday. AION will handle real-time traffic fluctuations and maintain stable network quality.

Meanwhile, LG Uplus will offer free video calls to all customers — including mobile virtual network operator subscribers — from Sept. 24 through Sept. 27 so they can reach family and friends during the Chuseok holiday. Prepaid phone users and those making video calls over mobile data via apps such as KakaoTalk and FaceTime are excluded from the offer.
