Employees of the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corp. carried out a dual act of goodwill Thursday, supporting both local children and regional merchants one week before the chuseok holiday.
The employees purchased 4.8 million won ($3,510) worth of clean Gangwon Province agricultural products and local specialties from producers and retailers in Wonju and surrounding areas, then visited Seongage Won, a child welfare facility in Wonju, to deliver the goods.
The initiative was designed to support the daily lives of children in the community while also promoting the local economy by sourcing products grown and made in the region.
While delivering the donated items, the employees spoke with facility staff and gathered a range of perspectives on child welfare work on the ground.
The donated goods will be used to support the daily lives and welfare of the children at Seongage Won.
Kim Jun-seop, the corporation's standing auditor, said continued community attention is needed "so that children can nurture their dreams and potential in a better environment." He added that he hoped the visit would go beyond a simple donation and become "an opportunity to hear directly from those on the ground and think together about what support is truly needed."
