Hyosung Heavy Industries announced Thursday that it is participating in the 2026 Korea Energy Show, held Wednesday through Friday at BEXCO in Busan.

At the event, the company unveiled a range of key high-voltage direct current (HVDC) equipment it has domestically developed using its own technology, including valves and controllers.

Valves and controllers are critical components that determine the performance and stable operation of voltage-source HVDC systems. The converter valve, developed independently by Hyosung Heavy Industries, uses power semiconductors to convert power between alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). The controller regulates the magnitude and direction of power flow and protects the grid when system anomalies occur.

Alongside this, the company introduced next-generation solutions designed to meet evolving power demand and energy conditions: a low-power instrument transformer (LPIT) for building digital substations, a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) for voltage stabilization and power quality improvement in the power grid, and a solid-state transformer (SST), a next-generation power solution based on power semiconductors.

"We will strengthen the competitiveness of our core power technologies to support the construction of large-capacity power networks in Korea, including the West Coast energy highway, and expand our presence in the global HVDC market beyond technological self-reliance to build a stronger export base," a company official said.

Meanwhile, Hyosung Heavy Industries was selected Wednesday as a participating company in the valve and controller segment of Korea Electric Power Corporation's large-capacity voltage-source HVDC localization and demonstration project. Korea Electric Power Corporation plans to apply products developed by Hyosung Heavy Industries and other domestic firms to its West Coast HVDC project for demonstration purposes.
