North Gyeongsang Province will host the 2026 Marine and Fisheries Expo at Hall 5 of the Daegu Exco East Wing from Friday through Sunday, the provincial government announced Thursday. The three-day event aims to showcase the quality of seafood products and identify new growth engines for the marine and fisheries industry.

Organized by the province and run by the East Sea Rim Industrial Research Institute, the expo will feature 200 booths from 83 companies under the slogan "The future of marine fisheries, meet it in North Gyeongsang!"

This year's expo goes beyond displaying and selling the province's premium seafood products, positioning itself as an industry-oriented event that connects businesses with export, investment and retail opportunities.

The event is built around three strategic pillars — participatory, business-focused and future industry-oriented — to present both the current state and future direction of North Gyeongsang's marine and fisheries sector.

At the opening ceremony on Friday, an inaugural performance and exhibition tour will be followed by a three-way MOU signing among North Gyeongsang Province, overseas buyer PT Indogal Agro Trading and local seafood company Ajin.

The agreement aims to support entry into the Indonesian market and expand exports, while strengthening cooperation on overseas market development through buyer, importer and distributor networking, market and distribution information sharing, and export consultation sessions and trade shows.

A separate export contract worth $5 million will also be signed to help local seafood companies expand their overseas sales channels.

The expo will also run export consultation sessions, an IR demo day to attract investment for marine and fisheries startups, and a product evaluation session with buyers from domestic hypermarkets — all designed to link export, investment and retail channels.

A school lunch competition featuring North Gyeongsang seafood makes its debut this year, with 12 teams of school cooks, nutritionists and students from across the province competing to present the best seafood-based school meal menus.

"We will actively support the MOU and export contract so they translate into real overseas market entry and expanded sales channels, creating new growth momentum for North Gyeongsang's marine and fisheries industry," said Yang Geum-hee, the province's vice governor for economic affairs.
