Kang Da-on, an internet broadcaster known as BJ Pai who had alleged she was sexually assaulted, was admitted to an intensive care unit after ingesting a large quantity of medication following a court acquittal in her case.

Kang's father said Wednesday on an online broadcasting forum that she had swallowed 20 sleeping pills along with 30 packets of medication — each containing seven pills of antidepressants, antipsychotics and sedatives — and had also been drinking. "It seems she made a bad choice because the trial outcome on Wednesday was not good," he wrote. "She is currently receiving treatment in a hospital ICU."

Kang announced the acquittal during a livestream Wednesday, saying, "How can this be happening?" Kerrigan May, a rapper and close friend of Kang's, shared a message from her reading, "Please take revenge on my behalf," and expressed outrage, saying, "There were witnesses at the scene that day and CCTV evidence clearly exists — why is the law in this country like this?"

Kang said she was groped in September 2024 while being driven to a hotel after a group dinner. She said an acquaintance who had taken over the vehicle from a designated driver groped her while she was intoxicated in the car.

"The perpetrator is a married man, and I still cannot understand why he committed such a crime against me," Kang had said. "Since then, I have suffered severe mental anguish and shock, and I sought psychiatric treatment."

The court acknowledged that the acquaintance, identified only as Mr. A, had arrived at the hotel first before taking the vehicle and driving off, but found that objective evidence — including dashcam footage that could directly confirm what happened inside the car — was insufficient to support a conviction.
