More than 200 messages to be displayed Sept. 24–27, from 7 to 9 p.m.; hopes range from family health to jobs and homeownership
Songpa-gu in Seoul will display residents' handwritten wishes and warm words on The Sphere, a spherical LED media art installation at Seokchon Lake, to mark the Chuseok holiday.
The event, titled "Wish Upon the Moon, Float It on The Sphere," will run throughout the four-day Chuseok holiday, with residents' heartfelt messages appearing on The Sphere as it transforms into a glowing full moon.
The more than 200 messages were collected from residents over one week beginning Aug. 31. They cover a wide range of hopes — family health and happiness, encouragement for students preparing for college entrance exams, job hunting, love and friendship, and expressions of gratitude to parents.
Messages include wishes such as "Please let good connections come my way in work and love" and "May our home shine as bright as the full moon rising high!"
The messages will be shown on The Sphere from Sept. 24 through Sept. 27, between 7 and 9 p.m. each evening. During those hours, visitors can also enjoy interactive content such as AI caricatures.
The Sphere is a 7-meter-diameter spherical LED media art installation that opened at the west side of Seokchon Lake in April 2025. It screens 27 types of content — including imagery of the solar system, the four seasons and famous artworks — and features interactive programming that displays visitor messages and photos. Since its opening, foot traffic at Seokchon Lake has grown significantly, establishing The Sphere as a new landmark of Songpa-gu.
Songpa-gu District Mayor Seo Gang-seok said the event would offer residents and tourists visiting Seokchon Lake during the holiday "a unique attraction and a memorable experience." He added that the district would continue to fill the space with content tied to seasonal holidays and anniversaries, as well as collaborations with young artists, to develop it into a cultural destination that draws ever more visitors.
