The Gangnam-gu Single-Person Household Community Center ran a tailored nutrition education program in partnership with food company Pulmuone on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The program marked the first collaborative project following an MOU the center and Pulmuone signed on Aug. 21. Pulmuone provided its food culture experience space, Tasty Pulmuone, as the venue and supplied ingredients and customized nutrition instruction, while the community center handled participant recruitment and networking among attendees.

A total of 16 single-person household residents ranging in age from their 30s to their 70s took part. Spread across two showings, the program focused on correcting unbalanced eating habits and building practical cooking skills. The curriculum covered protein-rich meals using whole grains, quick microwave cooking techniques, ways to repurpose leftover food, and dishes using an all-purpose seasoning sauce — all of which drew an enthusiastic response from participants.

"Living alone, I often just threw together something quick for a meal, so I found it really interesting to discover how many different dishes you can make with a microwave," one participant said.

Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyun-ki said the growing number of single-person households has made practical, everyday support for healthy eating increasingly important. "We will continue to develop diverse, tailored programs — not only through private-sector partnerships — so that single-person households can enjoy a healthy and vibrant daily life," he said.
