MOU with Daemyung Precision; meetings with 8 Korean firms operating in China

South Gyeongsang Province will send a delegation led by Governor Park Wan-su to Shanghai and Suzhou, China, from Thursday to Sunday on a four-day trip aimed at benchmarking advanced AI manufacturing practices and attracting a major reshoring investment.

The delegation, which includes Kim In-su, the province's director general of economy and trade, along with other provincial officials, will pursue economic cooperation in manufacturing AI, tourism and investment attraction. The first stop is AGIBOT (Zhiyuan Robotics), a humanoid robot company in Shanghai's Yangtze River AI Robot Valley.

The province plans to study the local robot production system and ecosystem to support its goal of building a hub for demonstrating and expanding manufacturing AI — a key policy initiative of the current provincial administration. It will also explore ways to benchmark physical AI supply chains in connection with a planned redevelopment of the Changwon National Industrial Complex.

In Suzhou, the delegation will sign an MOU with Daemyung Precision (DMG Group), a Korean company returning home from China. Daemyung Precision plans to invest about 100 billion won ($73.9 million) in facilities within South Gyeongsang Province and create more than 150 new jobs. The specific move-in site within the province will be finalized through consultations with the provincial government.

On the tourism front, the delegation will sign a cooperation MOU with Tongcheng Travel, a major Chinese online travel platform. The province intends to develop South Gyeongsang-tailored tourism products and travel itineraries and attract Chinese tourists, tying the effort to the "2027–2028 Korea-China Tourism Year" joint designation that the two governments are currently discussing.

The delegation will also visit Hyundai Wia's Jiangsu subsidiary and the DMG Group's local operations in Zhangjiagang, before holding a roundtable with representatives of eight South Gyeongsang-based companies operating in China — including Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Engine — to hear about their business challenges.

"We will showcase South Gyeongsang Province's competitiveness in tourism, manufacturing AI transformation and investment, and expand practical opportunities for cooperation," Governor Park said. "Through manufacturing innovation based on AI and robotics, and through global partnerships, we will secure new growth engines for the South Gyeongsang economy."
