Mobile licensing unit to operate Thursday afternoon at provincial office civil affairs window
South Chungcheong Province is moving to ease the time and financial burden on residents by bringing driver's license services directly to them.
The provincial government announced Wednesday that it will operate a mobile driver's license service at the civil affairs window of the provincial office on Thursday.
Run in partnership with the Korea Road Traffic Authority's Yesan Driver's License Examination Office, the service will handle driver's license-related civil affairs on-site from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Services available include fitness examinations (Class 1 ordinary and Class 2 ordinary for those aged 70 and older), renewals (Class 2 ordinary), reissuance, upgrades from Class 2 ordinary (manual and automatic, with seven years of accident-free driving) to Class 1 ordinary (manual and automatic), and international driver's license issuance. All licenses can be issued in English.
Applicants for a fitness examination must bring their driver's license, a health checkup result issued within the past two years, and two color photographs (3.5 x 4.5 centimeters) taken within the past six months. Those seeking a renewal must bring their license and two photographs, while those applying for reissuance need only a form of identification.
Fees range from 9,000 won ($16) to 21,000 won, and issued licenses will be available for pickup from 3 p.m. the following day, Sept. 24.
"The mobile driver's license service is part of our effort to improve access to driver's license civil affairs and reduce the time and financial burden on residents," a provincial official said. "We will continue to identify and expand tailored civil affairs services to address the practical inconveniences faced by residents."
