The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (DGFEZ) signed an investment MOU with Keon Solution Co. and Daegu Haany University on Tuesday to strengthen investment and industry-academia cooperation in the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District. The signing ceremony was held in the business room on the sixth floor of the DGFEZ building.

The ceremony was attended by DGFEZ Acting Director General Kim Hee-seok, Keon Solution Chief Executive Park Jeong-cheol and Daegu Haany University President Byeon Chang-hun, along with other key officials.

Under the agreement, Keon Solution — a manufacturer specializing in cosmetics and household detergent ingredients — will invest about 10 billion won ($7.43 million) to build a new production facility on a 4,749-square-meter site within the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District by 2028.

Founded in 2020, Keon Solution produces chemical products including surfactants and operates facilities in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, and Daegu.

The company posted sales of about 14.7 billion won last year and plans to expand its business and boost production capacity through the new manufacturing facility.

"This agreement is a meaningful example of synergy between a company's new investment, a university's industry-academia cooperation and DGFEZ's administrative support," Acting Director General Kim said. "We will continue to actively identify outstanding companies that can be linked to the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District's specialized industries, and expand cooperation with business support organizations and universities to help tenant companies grow on a stable footing."
