Event expands from two districts last year to four this year, with youth centers joining forces across Geumcheon-gu, Gwangmyeong, Gwanak-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu
Geumcheon-gu hosted the 2026 Youth Championship in Gwangmyeong, a joint youth sports competition, at the Gwangmyeong Citizens' Gymnasium on Saturday.
About 400 young participants from four districts — Geumcheon-gu, Gwangmyeong, Gwanak-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu — took part in the event. Last year's competition brought together youth from Geumcheon-gu and Gwangmyeong only; this year's edition expanded to include Gwanak-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu. Participants cheered each other on and used the occasion to connect and mingle across district lines.
The competition was divided into two rounds. The first featured group activities such as balloon popping and an OX quiz, giving participants a chance to mix and get to know one another. The second round shifted to competitive events — group jump rope and relay races — where district representatives squared off in a spirit of friendly rivalry.
Four youth centers organized the event jointly: the Seoul Youth Center Geumcheon Cheongchun Building, the Gwangmyeong Youth Center, the Seoul Youth Center Gwanak Sillim-dong Three Rooms, and the Seoul Youth Center Yeongdeungpo. The centers worked together to create a space where young people from different neighborhoods could naturally meet and enjoy sports activities.
Geumcheon-gu District Mayor Choi Ki-chan said, "I hope the Youth Championship will be a time for young people from different districts to run, laugh and connect with one another. We will continue to support youth in meeting new people and building new experiences."
