Artist Oh Ji-in's solo exhibition "Residue: Filtered Language" is on view through Sunday in Damyang.
The exhibition takes as its starting point a question about the words we casually exchange in everyday life — whether they truly vanish in an instant or linger in a person's heart and memory, resurfacing later as new emotions.
Working across painting and digital drawing, Oh combines movement and sound to explore how the same scene can produce different emotional responses when different languages are layered onto it.
To create an immersive environment, the exhibition operates on a reservation-only basis for groups of up to four visitors, with the number of viewers per time slot limited so that each person can fully experience the works' movement and sound. A notable feature is the unhurried time the format affords visitors to connect the works with their own memories and reflect at their own pace.
"Countless words pass through us, but some stay in the heart long after," Oh said. "I hope this exhibition gives visitors a chance to connect the stories in the works with their own experiences — and to slowly look back on the words and memories that have stayed with them."
