A woman who discovered that her boyfriend of six years was a school bully has found herself at a crossroads as their wedding approaches.
Her story was shared recently on Nate Pann, a popular online community forum, under the title "The person I'm about to marry was a school violence perpetrator."
The woman, identified only as A, said she met her boyfriend through a mutual acquaintance and had been with him for six years.
According to A, her boyfriend is financially stable and has been supportive throughout their relationship. She said he would patiently absorb her outbursts even when she had no particular reason to be upset, and that his friends told her he had become a noticeably warmer person since they started dating.
Recently, however, A learned that her boyfriend had committed school violence during his school years.
When she expressed her discomfort, her boyfriend contacted the victim directly in front of her and apologized.
The victim, upon receiving the apology, reportedly told him that he had already apologized before and asked him not to reach out again or bring up the past.
Her boyfriend acknowledged that his behavior as a child had been wrong and pledged that he would get down on his knees and beg forgiveness whenever the victim came to him.
A said the two still love each other as much as ever after six years together, and that she is now pregnant, making marriage feel all the more imminent.
She asked readers how much of his past she should accept, writing, "He's a devoted, capable younger man — it was just youthful foolishness, right?"
Reactions from online users were mixed. "A person's character never changes," wrote one. "Shouldn't he have gone to the victim himself and begged forgiveness before being asked?" said another. Others warned, "That violence could one day be directed at you," while some were more skeptical of A herself: "You're just trying to rationalize it because you're anxious" and "It sounds like you've already made up your mind."
