Seven household waste collection and transport companies operating in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, jointly donated 10 million won ($7,430) to help disadvantaged residents ahead of the Chuseok holiday, the city announced Monday.
The seven firms that took part were Yangju Environment, Sungil Environment, Clean Yangju, New Hana Development, Deokjeong Environment, Green Environment and Eco-friendly Development.
The participating companies handle household waste collection and transport as part of residents' daily lives, working to maintain a clean living environment. Ahead of Chuseok, they joined together to raise the donation, putting their commitment to community giving into practice.
"The seven companies came together to deliver a warm gesture to neighbors in need ahead of Chuseok," a company representative said. "We hope the donation reaches those who need it most and helps them enjoy a slightly warmer holiday."
Yangju Mayor Jeong Deok-yeong thanked the seven firms for pooling their efforts for those in need before the holiday. "It is all the more meaningful that they consistently join in community giving while fulfilling their role on the front lines of residents' daily lives," he said.
He added that the donated funds would be used carefully for vulnerable groups so that the spirit of sharing is well conveyed.
The seven companies have made annual donations for disadvantaged neighbors, including a joint contribution of 10 million won last October.
