Merchandise vouchers aim to boost traditional markets

HD Hyundai Heavy held a chuseok charity donation ceremony at Ulsan's Dong-gu District Office on Monday, presenting 83 million won ($61,600) in donations to Dong-gu District Mayor Cheon Gi-ok and Yang Ho-young, secretary general of the Ulsan Community Chest of Korea.

Executive Director Lee Jin and Supervisor Choi Min-ju — who participates in the company's volunteer group Hyeonsuhoe and its 1-percent salary-sharing program — attended the ceremony. The donations will provide 60 million won in Onuri merchandise vouchers to 1,200 households, including elderly people living alone, single-parent families and households with disabilities, along with 23 million won in holiday gift packages to 31 social welfare facilities and 46 senior centers.

HD Hyundai Heavy has donated to vulnerable residents and social welfare facilities in the Ulsan area every Lunar New Year and chuseok since 1995. Since 2011, it has also contributed Onuri vouchers — redeemable at traditional markets — to help boost local commerce. Alongside its holiday giving, the company supports vulnerable groups, improves conditions at welfare facilities, and runs programs for children and youth as part of its broader community engagement.
