Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province has been stepping up efforts to diversify its overseas tourism market by hosting Vietnamese travel industry officials and Mongolian social media influencers on back-to-back familiarization tours of the city's attractions.

According to city officials, Pohang organized a two-day fam tour from Sept. 3 to 4 for 35 travel industry representatives from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam, followed by a three-day program from Friday to Sunday for eight Mongolian influencers to experience the city's major tourist sites and tourism offerings.

The Vietnamese travel professionals visited K-drama filming locations including the Japanese Village Street in Guryongpo, as well as Homigot Sunrise Square, Space Walk, the healing forest at Naeyeonsan and Jukdo Market, sampling a range of Pohang's tourism resources firsthand.

The program also included a presentation on Pohang's medical infrastructure and medical tourism offerings, with participants exploring the potential for developing inbound travel products that combine conventional tourism with medical tourism.

The Mongolian influencers experienced Pohang's signature tourist destinations, marine tourism, and local food and cultural offerings, then shared the city's appeal with their home audiences through Instagram, YouTube and other social media platforms.

"We will use this fam tour as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with overseas travel agencies, expand locally tailored tourism product development and on-the-ground promotion, and work to translate that into greater inbound visitor numbers," said Lee Seong-su, head of Pohang's tourism industry division.
