Korea Maritime Promotion Corp. President Ahn Byung-gil recently visited London — a global hub for the maritime industry — where he held meetings with major institutions including the International Maritime Organization and organizations specializing in shipping information, vessel brokerage and maritime insurance, the corporation announced Monday. The discussions focused on shifts in the global maritime industry and potential areas of cooperation to build a foundation for future growth.

Ahn first met with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez to exchange views on the global shipping industry's push for carbon neutrality and the broader impact of evolving international regulation. The two also explored ways to expand the corporation's financial and information support role as the industry transitions toward greener operations.

Ahn then met with Baltic Exchange CEO Mark Jackson to discuss how global shipping data and freight indices are used by market participants in decision-making and transactions, and the outlook for related markets. In a separate meeting, Ahn and Clarksons CEO Andi Case discussed the integration of specialized services spanning vessel brokerage, finance and information, as well as how the spread of digital technology and AI is reshaping global shipping business.

Ahn also met with Marsh UK CEO James Addington-Smith to exchange views on the links between maritime finance and marine insurance and reinsurance, the risk-management function of global insurance markets, and potential cooperation with South Korea's maritime industry.

Building on the discussions, the corporation plans to analyze the competitiveness and development factors of global maritime hubs and to continuously examine its future role in strengthening the South Korean maritime industry and establishing new growth foundations, drawing on its existing capabilities in maritime finance and information services.
