Yeoncheon-gun vows to build sustainable regional cooperation model with corporate partners
Yeoncheon-gun announced Monday that the "2026 Daewoo Engineering & Construction Labor-Management Joint Family Love Festival in Yeoncheon" was held Saturday at the Jeongok-ri prehistoric site and along the Hantan River tourism corridor.
The event was the company's first large-scale family gathering in about a decade, bringing employees and their families to Yeoncheon-gun for a walking rally, recreational activities and a range of hands-on programs.
It was organized as a follow-up to a regional cooperation MOU that Yeoncheon-gun and Daewoo Engineering & Construction signed last November, extending the continuity of their community partnership.
Participants set off from the Jeongok-ri prehistoric site and walked to the Hantan River tourism area, taking part in activities that brought the region's history and culture to life — a Paleolithic-themed barbecue, a traditional shelter-building workshop, a docent tour of the Jeongok Prehistory Museum and a prehistoric costume experience.
Yeoncheon-gun set up booths throughout the venue selling local agricultural and specialty products and food, and promoted programs including the hometown love donation scheme and a digital tourism resident card, helping visitors discover the county's many attractions.
The county expects the event to encourage repeat visits and boost tourism, including promotion of the 2029 Yeoncheon World Paleolithic Expo, while also growing the county's active population as participants build lasting ties with the region's history, culture and tourism resources.
Beyond the main program at the Jeongok-ri site, organizers arranged visits to key local attractions and directed participants to restaurants and tourism facilities in the area, laying the groundwork for extended stays rather than single-day trips.
The event demonstrated new possibilities for regional cooperation by combining a corporate gathering with the county's tourism, culture and local specialty products.
Building on the sisterhood agreement signed earlier, Yeoncheon-gun and Daewoo Engineering & Construction have committed to continuing a range of exchange programs, including employee visits to the region, purchases of local specialty products and hometown love donations.
"We hope Daewoo Engineering & Construction employees and their families created wonderful memories in Yeoncheon and had the chance to experience its history, culture and beautiful nature firsthand," said Kim Seok-in, director of future strategy at Yeoncheon-gun. "We will use this event as a springboard to deepen our cooperation with Daewoo Engineering & Construction and build a sustainable regional partnership model in which businesses and communities grow together."
