World Maritime Day celebrations set for Busan on Oct. 26-27

Heads of international organizations, ministers from key nations expected to attend

South Korea has issued a commemorative stamp to mark the 2026 World Maritime Day celebrations, which will be held in Busan next month.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Korea Post jointly announced Tuesday the release of the commemorative stamp for the 2026 World Maritime Day.

World Maritime Day is designated by the International Maritime Organization, a UN body, to raise awareness of the importance of the maritime industry, including shipping and shipbuilding.

This year's event will be held Oct. 26-27 at the Busan Port International Exhibition and Convention Center. Heads of international maritime organizations and ministers from major countries are expected to attend.

The ministry and Korea Post said they decided to issue the stamp to publicize the significance of hosting the event in Busan and to generate broader public interest.

On Tuesday, Korea Post Director General Park In-hwan presented the commemorative stamp to Deputy Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Nam Jae-heon at the ministry's headquarters.

"I hope this commemorative stamp will serve as a meaningful record that reminds us of the value of the ocean, which sustains our daily lives and economy, and of our shared commitment to building a safe and sustainable sea," Park said.

Nam said he was honored that the stamp release would help inform the public about the value of the ocean and the importance of the maritime industry. "We ask for your continued interest and support for the 2026 World Maritime Day celebrations to be held in Busan next month," he added.
