A man in his 80s was arrested on the spot after attacking a passerby with a bladed weapon on a street in Seoul's Dongdaemun-gu.

According to police and fire department authorities, a report came in at around 8:24 p.m. Sunday that a man had been stabbed on a street in Jeonnong-dong, Dongdaemun-gu.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and transported the victim, a man in his 70s who had sustained stab wounds to multiple parts of his body, to a hospital.

Officers searched the surrounding area and apprehended the suspect, identified only as A, within about 10 minutes on charges of attempted murder.

The victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said they do not believe the attack was a random, motiveless stabbing. They are investigating the suspect for possible personal grievances and other specific motives behind the incident.
