A popular singer has joined a growing culture of giving by making a major charitable donation to support vulnerable communities.

The Community Chest of Korea announced Sunday that Yeonjun of the group Tomorrow X Together donated 100 million won ($74,700) to mark his birthday on Sept. 13. Through the donation, Yeonjun became a member of the Community Chest's Honor Society, a group of individual high-value donors.

The funds will go toward providing free meals for elderly residents in Seongnam and renovating aging welfare facilities in the area.

"I decided to donate because I wanted to share the generous love I have received with as many people as possible in a meaningful way," Yeonjun said. "I sincerely hope that my small act of care and sharing will reach those who need it and become a source of warmth that brightens someone's day, even just a little."

Before this donation, Yeonjun had already been active in philanthropy across a range of causes — supporting underfed children in Korea, helping firefighters recover from PTSD and other psychological and emotional difficulties, funding the construction of a care hospital for ALS patients, and backing mental health programs for children and adolescents. With this latest gift, he has extended his giving to elderly welfare as well.

Meanwhile, the Community Chest's Honor Society is a group of individual high-value donors who have given 100 million won or more, or have pledged to do so within five years. It was established in 2007.
