Dongjak-gu is launching a field-based open district mayor's office program called "Ryu Quiz" to strengthen communication with residents who have had difficulty participating in district affairs due to work, child-rearing or studies.
"Ryu Quiz" is a program in which District Mayor Ryu Sam-young visits residents in their everyday surroundings — traditional markets, parks and transit-oriented areas — for free-flowing conversation.
The district currently operates an "Open District Mayor's Office" on the first floor of the district office every Tuesday and Thursday, where residents who wish to meet the district mayor can do so. "Ryu Quiz" takes that a step further, designed to broaden the scope of communication by going directly into the community to hear from residents who find it difficult to visit the district office and to reflect their voices in district policy.
Every Monday and Wednesday, Ryu shows up with nothing but a camping chair and meets residents on the spot — no prepared script. Conversations range freely from policy suggestions and everyday concerns to whatever questions residents may have for the district mayor.
"Ryu Quiz" kicks off Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Dorimcheon and will continue visiting wherever residents gather — Seongdae Market, Namseong Four-Seasons Market, Kkachisan Park, subway station areas and beyond.
The program's format, locations and timing will be adjusted flexibly to suit conditions on the ground. Starting in October, the district is also considering designating separate themes for Monday and Wednesday visits — "district policy sites" and "residents' everyday scenes," respectively.
Through "Ryu Quiz," the district aims to step outside fixed formats and venues, listen to residents' candid stories, and supplement the existing administration-centered approach to communication — gradually expanding the reach of these encounters so that a wider range of residents' voices can find their way into district policy.
"I want to not only listen to residents who come to the Open District Mayor's Office, but also go out myself into their daily lives," Ryu said. "Through 'Ryu Quiz,' I will look closely at where people actually live, take their valuable opinions to heart, and work together with residents to bring about better change."
