Twenty-seven projects were selected from 216 proposals through departmental review, committee deliberation and a public vote — covering road and pedestrian improvements, safety, welfare and other everyday community needs.
Jungnang-gu has finalized 27 participatory budgeting projects for 2027, totaling 1.1 billion won ($822,000), selected through resident proposals and a public vote.
A total of 216 project proposals were submitted by local residents for this year's participatory budget cycle. After review by the relevant departments and deliberation by the Participatory Budget Committee, 88 projects were put to a public vote, from which residents directly chose the final 27.
The selected projects center on areas closely tied to residents' daily lives, including improvements to the living environment, safety, welfare, culture and sports. Because the projects were proposed and chosen by residents themselves, they reflect a wide range of community voices and everyday needs.
Through the participatory budgeting program, the district has been turning residents' everyday frustrations and local needs into concrete projects. Last year, the district carried out initiatives including the installation of road heating cables on steep residential slopes and a late-night safe-return-home project. This year, ongoing resident-proposed projects include installing safety signs along the Bonghwasan trail, improving the pedestrian environment along the ginkgo tree boulevard and running neighborhood gatherings for elderly residents with health vulnerabilities.
Along the Bonghwasan circular trail in particular, solar-powered LED lights were installed in response to a resident proposal. The project attached solar LED fixtures to existing structures without requiring electrical construction work, cutting both costs and installation time — a concrete example of a resident idea translating into a real improvement to the local environment.
Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said the 216 proposals submitted demonstrated residents' strong interest in and commitment to the district's development. "We will push ahead diligently to ensure that the 27 projects chosen directly by residents lead to real, tangible change in our community," Ryu said, "and we will continue listening to residents' voices and further energizing the participatory budgeting system — one where residents themselves take part and make the decisions."
