8 billion won in Seocho Love Gift Vouchers available through the Seoul Pay Plus app starting Thursday afternoon — up to 1.5 million won in holdings, 5% discount, and cash refunds available

Seoul's Seocho-gu will issue 8 billion won ($5.98 million) worth of "Seocho Love Gift Vouchers" through the Seoul Pay Plus app starting at 3 p.m. Thursday, ahead of the chuseok holiday.

The issuance is a livelihood support measure aimed at easing residents' shopping costs during the holiday season amid persistent inflation and economic uncertainty, while also stimulating spending at local businesses.

Each resident may purchase up to 500,000 won worth of vouchers at a 5 percent discount off face value and may hold up to 1.5 million won in total. The vouchers are valid for five years from the date of purchase, and unused vouchers may be fully canceled for a refund.

In addition, residents who use more than 60 percent of the face value of their purchased vouchers may receive the remaining balance as a cash refund.

The vouchers are accepted at approximately 30,000 Seoul Pay Plus-affiliated merchants in Seocho-gu, including restaurants and small grocery stores. Residents can find participating locations through the "Find a Merchant" menu in the Seoul Pay Plus app.

The district plans to use the issuance to help residents prepare for the holiday with less financial strain, while channeling consumer spending back into the local economy in a way that benefits both residents and small business owners.

"I hope this chuseok issuance of Seocho Love Gift Vouchers will ease the burden on residents worn down by high prices and give a real boost to small business owners struggling with the economic slowdown," Seocho-gu District Mayor Jeon Seong-su said. "We will continue to push forward with livelihood measures that allow residents and small business owners to thrive together."
