The city of Andong in North Gyeongsang Province will restrict vehicle and pedestrian traffic along the section beneath the Cheolli Overpass toward Homeplus from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, as crews demolish the upper structure of Cheolli Stream Bridge No. 2.
The demolition is a preparatory step for installing a pedestrian bridge connecting the former Andong Station site to the route of the Andong Okya-dong Neulsolgil trail development project, which is under way on a disused railway site in Okya-dong.
The structure targeted for removal is the upper section of a former Jungang Line railway bridge — the central span left standing after both side sections were previously demolished.
The entire area beneath the Cheolli Overpass toward Homeplus will be fully closed on the day of the work.
While the demolished structure is being transported, traffic will also be restricted along the work zone from the Andong Mask Dance Performance Hall past the Andong Mail Center to the entrance of the former Andong Station site.
"Please follow on-site guidance and use detour roads during the restricted hours," a city official said. "We will do our best to complete the work safely and swiftly."
