At the opening of the third Haebangchon Week, mayor meets some 120 merchants and elderly residents; film festival, market and performances continue through Sunday

Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae attended the opening ceremony of the third annual Haebangchon Week on Thursday. The Haebangchon alley shopping district merchants association hosted the event, where he met with local merchants and elderly residents.

About 120 people attended the opening ceremony's "Yongam Senior Center Village Feast" that day. They included merchants from the Haebangchon alley shopping district, elderly residents from the Yongam and Yongsan 2-ga senior centers, and other guests.

Now in its third year, Haebangchon Week runs for four days and three nights through Sunday around Sinheung-ro. Following the opening ceremony, a full slate of cultural events will continue, including a film festival, the Haebangjang flea market, live performances and street concerts. Coca-Cola and the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation, among others, sponsored the event.

Mayor Kim greeted merchants and elderly residents on the scene, encouraged event organizers, and listened to voices from the local community.

"Haebangchon is a precious asset for Yongsan, with its own charm and stories alive in every alley," Kim said. "We will keep reflecting the voices of merchants and residents in our policies and strengthen support to revitalize the alley markets, boosting their competitiveness."
