The city of Yeosu said it is reviewing civil and criminal action, including charges of defamation and insult. The move follows malicious posts and personal attacks targeting social media supporters who appeared in a promotional video for the 2026 Yeosu International Island Expo, which spread online.

In a press release Thursday, the city said, "Cases are spreading in which individuals involved in producing the video as city hall social media supporters for the island expo are being singled out, with their faces captured from the video, mocked, ridiculed and subjected to insulting comments and posts." The city added, "We humbly accept criticism of the island expo, but please do not disparage the enthusiasm of citizens who participated in good faith."

The city plans to monitor related posts and comments, secure evidence and collect proof. It will pursue civil and criminal action — including defamation and insult charges under laws governing information and communications networks — once the facts are confirmed.
