Korea Maritime and Ocean University said Wednesday that a delegation led by University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) President Bui Quang Hung visited the school on Monday to discuss expanding education, research and international exchange cooperation between the two universities.
UEH, founded in 1976, marks its 50th anniversary this year and stands as a leading Vietnamese university built on a foundation in economics and business. The school has since broadened its education and research scope into fields such as technology and design, and it is expanding its maritime education and research capacity centered on the UEH Nexus Campus Nha Trang, currently under construction.
Korea Maritime and Ocean University and UEH signed an academic exchange agreement in January, laying the groundwork for cooperation in education, research and international exchange. The two schools plan to build on their respective strengths in maritime studies to expand practical cooperation, including joint education programs and research.
The two universities arranged the latest visit to flesh out concrete areas of cooperation, building on the international academic exchange agreement they signed earlier.
During the visit, the UEH delegation held talks with Korea Maritime and Ocean University President Ryu Dong-keun, exchanging views on the current state of education and research at both schools and future directions for cooperation. They particularly discussed ways to expand cooperation across various areas, including student and faculty exchanges, joint education program development, joint research, and hosting international academic events.
"This visit was a meaningful occasion for the two universities to share their real education and research settings and discuss in detail the areas we can pursue together going forward," Ryu said. "We have agreed to work with UEH to offer students more diverse international education opportunities and to build a sustainable cooperation model that allows universities from both countries to grow together."
