27th anniversary ceremony held Monday, praising social welfare workers, volunteers and donors
The Dongdaemun-gu Office in Seoul held the 27th Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Day commemoration ceremony Monday at the multipurpose auditorium on the second floor of the district office. The event was organized by the Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Council.
The event was held to mark Social Welfare Day and to recognize the efforts of social welfare workers, volunteers and donors who have dedicated themselves to improving residents' quality of life on the welfare front lines, as well as to raise public awareness of the value and importance of social welfare in the community.
The ceremony was divided into two parts: a celebratory performance and the official commemoration. The event opened with a traditional dance performance by Baekhwacheongja, a self-help group of Chinese immigrant women organized under the Dongdaemun-gu Family Center.
The official ceremony that followed began with a national salute and the introduction of guests, followed by the presentation of citations to social welfare honorees. Kim Young-sub, head of the Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Council, then delivered commemorative remarks. Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min offered words of encouragement, followed by congratulatory speeches from other key guests.
The ceremony recognized a total of 38 honorees — social welfare workers, volunteers and donors — who have each dedicated themselves to advancing welfare in the community.
The 38 award recipients included 16 who received citations from the district mayor.
The district mayor's citations went to workers who faithfully carried out their duties on the social welfare front lines. They also recognized organizations that practiced donation and sharing for the community, and volunteers who have continued steady volunteer service.
"I deeply thank the social welfare workers, volunteers and donors who have dedicated themselves across our community to protecting residents' lives and advancing welfare," Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min said. "Going forward, we will do our best to build a tight-knit welfare safety net, through close cooperation between the public and private sectors, so that no one is left behind, and to make Dongdaemun-gu a place where everyone can be happy."
