September's chef: Park Eun-young, the 'Chinese cuisine goddess'
A chance has arrived to taste the food of Park Eun-young, the "Chinese cuisine goddess" who left a strong impression on audiences through Netflix's Culinary Class Wars.
The Herald Business is running its "Star Chef's Invitation" event from this month through December, giving readers a chance to experience star chefs' culinary worlds firsthand. The protagonist of September's culinary journey is Park Eun-young, who runs the Chinese restaurant Nuwa.
Park first drew public attention in 2015 through the SBS entertainment show "Culinary Showdown: Chinese Restaurant," and went on to earn recognition for her skills across various television programs.
She solidified her status as a mainstream star chef particularly through Netflix's Culinary Class Wars. The sight of a petite female chef wielding a wok among masters of Chinese cuisine was striking in itself.
Earlier this year, she opened her own Chinese restaurant, Nuwa, where she has been fully unfolding her own culinary world.
Nuwa is where Park channels her years of experience in Chinese cuisine into her own distinct style.
The restaurant serves the "dongpo pork mandu," dumplings filled with braised pork belly, that became a talking point on Culinary Class Wars. It also offers stir-fried lamb ribs, Cantonese-style roast duck and other dishes rarely found at typical Chinese restaurants. Park explains that Nuwa's direction is to add a new twist to familiar food, giving diners a distinctly different culinary experience.
For Park, the role of a star chef goes beyond simply becoming famous. She said that expanding the boundaries of cuisine by taking on new dishes and genres is an important role for a star chef.
This event was designed to let readers directly experience the food of chefs featured in The Herald Business's culinary interview series, "Midam."

Among logged-in readers who read articles consistently throughout September, winners will be drawn by lottery. They will receive a 300,000 won ($223) dining voucher for Chef Park Eun-young's Nuwa, along with a special gift including her autograph.
Entries can be submitted through the event page on The Herald Business website, with the participation period running through Sept. 30. Entering multiple times a day, every day, increases the chances of winning.
Winners will be announced Oct. 8.
