A customer who discovered too late that a card payment had not gone through made a 30-minute trip back to an unmanned store to complete the transaction — and left a handwritten note for the owner.

The story of A, who runs an unmanned ice cream shop, was recently featured on JTBC's "Sageon Banjang," a TV current-affairs program.

According to A, the customer visited the self-service ice cream shop at around 2 a.m. Monday and purchased an ice cream and a drink. Believing the card payment had gone through, the customer left the store — only to discover later, while reviewing card statements, that no transaction record existed.

The customer immediately tried to reach A by phone and text message but was unable to get through.

The customer ultimately returned to the store in person to pay the outstanding amount. The store was about a 30-minute walk from home.

After returning, the customer left A a handwritten note explaining the situation.

The note read: "On Monday, at around 2 a.m., I bought one ice cream and one drink at your ice cream shop and thought the payment had gone through, but there was no record on my card statement. I tried calling and texting you from the morning, but you were unavailable, so I came back and paid. I would be grateful if you could read this letter after checking the CCTV footage."

A said the customer had realized the payment had not gone through, made the 30-minute trip back to settle the bill, and even left an apologetic note — a gesture A found so touching that the story was shared with the program.
