Singer and actor IU will release a new digital single on Thursday.
Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced the comeback Friday by posting a teaser video on IU's official social media accounts. According to the teaser, the new track will drop at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
The music featured in the teaser has drawn particular attention because it matches a snippet that briefly appeared in a video titled "Byeolnim Je Sowoneul Deureojuseyo" ("Please Grant My Wish, Star") posted to IU's official YouTube channel in late August. That video sparked wide anticipation among fans eager to hear new music from her.
The upcoming release carries added significance as it comes exactly one year after IU surprised fans with the unannounced digital single "Bye, Summer" on Sept. 10 last year. Her return with new music on the same date this year has caught fans' attention.
IU made her debut in 2008 with the mini-album "Lost and Found." She has since released a string of hit songs — including "Good Day," "You and I," "Friday," "Through the Night" and "Love Wins All" — and has remained consistently active in the music industry.
She has also built an extensive acting career, appearing in drama series including "Dream High," "The Best Lee Soon-shin," "The Producers," "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" and "When Life Gives You Tangerines." She also appeared in the MBC drama series "21st Century Daegunjubu," which concluded in May, playing the role of Seong Hui-ju.
