Seoul's 25 autonomous districts extend solidarity to flood-hit communities, raising 10 million won to help residents rebuild their daily lives
The Seoul Metropolitan District Mayors' Association donated 10 million won ($7,360) to South Gyeongsang Province to support recovery efforts following record-breaking heavy rains that caused widespread damage in the region.
The donation was raised to comfort residents whose homes and daily lives were upended by the sudden downpours and to assist in the swift restoration of the affected areas. The funds will be used for disaster recovery, support for affected residents, and stabilizing the lives of displaced people.
The association conveyed its condolences to flood-hit residents through a letter delivered alongside the donation. "We extend our heartfelt sympathy to all residents who have been enduring difficult days amid deep grief and anxiety after the sudden flooding destroyed their precious homes and daily lives," the association said. "We sincerely hope that all affected residents can return as soon as possible to a safe home and a peaceful daily life."
The association also expressed gratitude and encouragement to public officials, firefighters, police, military personnel, volunteers, and other relief workers in South Gyeongsang Province working to protect lives and restore damaged areas under dangerous conditions. "The dedication of those giving their all to rescue operations, recovery work, and victim support — even in the most urgent circumstances — is a powerful source of strength and hope for citizens worn down by the disaster," the association said.
Lee Seung-ro, chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan District Mayors' Association, said he wished to convey deep sympathy to residents of South Gyeongsang Province suffering greatly from the heavy rains. "I hope that with the strong resolve of local residents and the solidarity of the community, this crisis will be overcome quickly and a peaceful daily life restored," he said.
Lee added that the association would spare no support or cooperation needed for the swift recovery of the affected areas and the stabilization of displaced residents' lives. "We will continue to uphold the spirit of solidarity and cooperation — helping one another and overcoming hardship together — in times of disaster," he said.
