Kakao Pay Securities announced Friday it will hold a raffle event through Sept. 30, giving away shares to new friends of its official KakaoTalk channel.

The event follows the channel surpassing 1 million friends in June, and aims to reach more users with investment information and promotional benefits.

The event is open to users who have not previously agreed to add the Kakao Pay Securities channel as a KakaoTalk friend.

Users can sign up through the "Events" screen on the app, which will automatically add the channel as a friend. Ten participants will be selected by raffle to each receive one share of Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Electronics was chosen as the prize stock for its wide name recognition, including among users with limited investment experience.

Winners will be notified individually via KakaoTalk channel message in October. The shares will be credited through a Kakao Pay Securities account at the market price at the time of payment; users without an account can open one through the app before receiving the shares. The value of the shares may vary depending on the market price at the time of payment.

The Kakao Pay Securities KakaoTalk channel has grown sharply this year, with its friend count rising more than 14-fold in three months from about 70,000 in March.

Since reaching 1 million channel friends in June, it has held the top spot in friend count among official brokerage KakaoTalk channels, according to the company's own September tally. The channel continues to attract new friends consistently, as it delivers timely updates on new benefits and investment news.

Kakao Pay Securities' custodied assets surpassed 20 trillion won ($14.6 billion) at the end of May, with broad-based growth across domestic and overseas shares, pension savings, ISA, funds and deposits.

"We hope this event will bring us together with more users on our KakaoTalk channel," the company said. "We will deliver useful information and news so that the channel becomes the natural first stop for anyone who takes an interest in investing."
