Airline vows to keep raising awareness of sustainable resource use

Jin Air announced Friday it will launch an upcycling campaign using recycled cabin crew uniforms to mark Resource Circulation Day on Sunday.

The airline has carried out annual sustainable resource-circulation initiatives, producing pencil cases from its denim uniforms in 2023 and 2024 and a pouch in 2025. This year, Jin Air again partnered with Ecoparty Meari — South Korea's first upcycling social enterprise — to develop the campaign.

While last year's effort focused on practicality through a large pouch bag, this year's product is designed as a keyring that can be attached to bags and other everyday items, making the message of resource circulation more accessible, the company said.

The upcycled product, called "Chunky Pot," is made from retired denim uniform trousers that were no longer wearable. The trousers are collected and transformed into a multipurpose mini-pouch keyring that can hold small items such as wireless earphones, with a detachable design for added convenience. Leftover fabric and materials from the production process will be donated to support further resource-circulation activities.

"As the climate crisis deepens, the importance of resource circulation grows by the day," a Jin Air official said. "We hope this campaign serves as an opportunity to raise awareness of the value of resource circulation again, and we will continue to pursue a wide range of eco-friendly initiatives going forward."

Jin Air will also hold special in-flight events on Sunday for passengers aboard two flights operating on Resource Circulation Day: the Incheon–Ishigaki (LJ361) and Incheon–Chiang Mai (LJ009) routes.

Cabin crew will run a variety of in-flight games, including a treasure hunt, and some customers will receive a "Chunky Pot" through an onboard lucky draw.

Meanwhile, Jin Air has been expanding its corporate social responsibility efforts, most recently joining Air Busan and Air Seoul in a summer cooling-blanket donation drive for local communities.
