Seoul Metropolitan Government selects site for design landscape project; interim design report held
The stretch of road connecting Changdong Station in Seoul's Dobong-gu to Seoul Arena is set to be transformed into a "stay-and-linger cultural space" where visitors can rest, spend time and enjoy culture.
Dobong-gu said an interim design report for the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Changdong Culture Link design landscape project was held Aug. 26 at Widang Hall on the M4 floor of the district office building.
The design landscape project, led by the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Urban Landscape Division, aims to create spaces where residents and tourists can rest, linger and enjoy culture, adding vitality to the city. It combines rest, viewing and cultural functions to extend the time visitors spend in the area and revitalize nearby streets and commercial districts.
As part of the same initiative, a project to improve pedestrian conditions and create rest spaces in Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, was completed in July.
The Changdong Station–Seoul Arena corridor in Dobong-gu was selected as a project site in 2025, with full-scale preparation beginning this year.
Tied to the opening of Seoul Arena, scheduled for 2027, the corridor will be reborn as a cultural arts street blending K-pop, media art and nightscape.
The design will incorporate rest areas where concertgoers and fans can linger and interact, as well as pedestrian safety measures to handle large crowds.
The interim report, which followed a kickoff meeting held in April, brought together officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Urban Landscape Division, Dobong-gu District Mayor Kim Dong-wook and senior district office staff to share the basic design concept and the project's upcoming schedule.
The design work is set to wrap up in December, with completion scheduled for May next year.
"The area around Changdong Station will become a hub of Korean culture drawing countless visitors from home and abroad when Seoul Arena opens," Dobong-gu District Mayor Kim Dong-wook said. "We will create a distinctive stay-and-linger cultural space where residents and visitors can enjoy themselves and take in the culture, breathing new life into the local commercial district and the urban environment."
