Park Heon-su took office Thursday as the 40th chief of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency.

As his first official act, Park visited the North Gyeongsang Police Memorial Park to pay his respects before holding a video conference with command staff and employee representatives to formally begin his duties.

In his inaugural address, Park outlined three priorities: "speed policing" — rapid response and handling of reports and incidents; a "triple communication system" linking station chiefs, lead departments and situation channels for comprehensive initial responses; and a ban on case inquiries to ensure investigative fairness as police take on greater investigative responsibility.

"Starting with the chief himself setting an example, every member will fulfill their role and responsibility and act in a manner befitting the police, so that we can build a North Gyeongsang police force that meets the expectations of the people of this province," he said.

Park also pledged to foster a workplace culture in which officers take pride in their work. "Satisfied officers lead to satisfied citizens," he said, adding that he would listen to staff concerns and voices from the field and ensure fair and transparent personnel and promotion practices.

Park is a native of Iksan, North Jeolla Province. He joined the police in 1996 as a member of the 44th class of police officer candidates and has since served as chief of the Iksan Police Station in North Jeolla Province, head of the investigation division at the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, and deputy chief of the Joint Investigation Headquarters for Drug Crimes.
