Popular trot music singer Bae A-hyeon received an honorary ambassador appointment from Ulsan's Buk-gu on Thursday, beginning an unpaid promotional role for the district.

The appointment came after fans of Bae from the Buk-gu area, members of her fan cafe "Art," proposed the idea. District officials determined that her bright and wholesome image made her well suited to promote Buk-gu's vision of becoming "a resident-centered, happy Buk-gu that leaps forward through innovation."

Over the next two years, Bae will appear in promotional videos and participate in various events to highlight the district's attractions. At the appointment ceremony Thursday, she said she would "take the lead in promoting the beautiful scenery and tourist destinations of Buk-gu, including Gangdong Beach."

Bae rose to national prominence after finishing second in a well-known televised trot music competition and has since built a following through appearances on a range of music and entertainment programs.
