South Gyeongsang Province said it appointed Choi Man-rim, 60, a former administrative vice governor of the province, as its new economic vice governor, effective Monday.

A native of Goseong, South Gyeongsang Province, Choi entered public service through the 37th administrative civil service examination. He has held senior posts at both the local and central government levels, including deputy mayor of Sacheon, head of the Future Industries Division and director of the Planning and Coordination Office at South Gyeongsang Province, and director general for disaster response policy and director general for local fiscal policy at the Ministry of Interior and Safety.

Choi served two years as the inaugural administrative vice governor under Governor Park Wan-su when the eighth directly elected provincial administration launched, overseeing efforts to elevate provincial priorities into national projects and build a disaster response framework. He subsequently moved to the National Assembly as senior specialist on the Interior and Safety Committee, where he coordinated policy between the central government and local authorities.

"I will draw on my administrative experience in both central and local government, as well as my expertise in fiscal affairs, to move swiftly on pressing economic challenges — upgrading key industries, attracting investment and fostering new future industries," Choi said.

Choi will begin official duties Monday morning without a separate inauguration ceremony, paying his respects at the Provincial Martyrs' Tower before presiding over an expanded senior staff meeting at the provincial government office.
