A man in his 30s who led police on a roughly 20-kilometer chase through central Daegu, ramming 11 vehicles and injuring an officer, has been arrested.

Daegu police said the male suspect, identified only as A, was arrested at the scene Wednesday and is under investigation. A female passenger in her 30s, identified as B, was also taken into custody on charges of aiding and abetting drunk driving.

A faces charges of causing a minor collision and fleeing the scene around 2 a.m. Wednesday near the Gugwu Tunnel in Buk-gu, then striking 11 vehicles — including police cars — and hitting an officer during a chase that covered 20 kilometers from Jung-gu to Buk-gu across three separate ramming incidents.

Police had begun pursuing A's vehicle after receiving a report of suspected drunk driving near the Jung-gu district office intersection around 1:50 a.m. Officers spotted the car near the Buk-gu Goseong district police post and ordered the driver to get out, but A rammed a police car and fled.

A struck another vehicle near the Gugwu Tunnel in Buk-gu before continuing to flee.

Officers eventually surrounded A outside a residential area in Eumnae-dong, Buk-gu, where he lives. He refused to comply and rammed eight parked vehicles and a police car in another attempt to escape.

During the confrontation, A struck one officer, fracturing the officer's femur.

Police fired one blank round and four live rounds at A's tires to stop the vehicle, then subdued him with a Taser.

Police are reviewing whether to seek an arrest warrant for A and are investigating the full circumstances of the incident.
